The Stately Homes

Stately home wedding venues.

16 country houses where a real visitor has described a wedding in their own Google review. A short list on purpose - a house is here because someone who went wrote about it, not because the venue says so.

16 of the 286 stately homes on this list are used as wedding venues across England, Scotland and Wales. Grantley Hall is the best-rated of them, at 4.8 from 772 Google reviews. Syon House draws the most reviews, 1,544 of them.

Common questions

How many stately homes on this list are used as wedding venues?

16 of the 286 stately homes on this list. A house appears here only when a visitor's own Google review describes a wedding held there, so this is evidence of weddings actually happening rather than a licensing list. It is not a complete register of licensed venues: a house that holds weddings but whose reviews do not mention one will be missing, so check the operator's own site before ruling anywhere out.

Which is the best-rated?

Grantley Hall in North Yorkshire, rated 4.8 from 772 Google reviews. Only houses with at least 100 reviews are considered, so a high score from a handful of visitors does not top the list. That rating covers the house as a whole, not the wedding venue on its own.

Which one is the most reviewed?

Syon House in London, with 1,544 Google reviews at 4.6. That is a rough proxy for how well known and how busy a house is, not a visitor figure, which no house here publishes.

Who runs them?

Of the 16 here, 2 are run by Cadw, 1 is run by the National Trust and the remaining 13 by private estates, independent trusts or local councils. Who owns a house decides whether a membership card gets you in, so each entry names its operator and links to the official site.

Where this list comes from

Every house on this page qualifies one way: a visitor described a wedding at it in a publicly available Google review. Reviews mentioning a wedding anniversary, or a historical wedding that happened centuries ago, are filtered out, because neither means the house takes bookings. Nothing here is included on the strength of a venue's own marketing pages. That keeps the list short and it keeps it honest - a country house that genuinely hosts weddings can still be missing simply because no reviewer has mentioned one yet.

Always check before you go

Wedding availability, capacity and pricing change constantly and are not something a review can tell you. Treat this as a shortlist to start from, then go to the house's own page (linked from every entry) and contact the venue directly.
