Privacy policy
The Stately Homes is a static site with no user accounts, no sign-up forms and no newsletter. We don't collect or store personal data on our own servers. Here's what does happen when you visit.
Third-party services this site uses
- Cloudflare - hosts the site and handles routine security/performance logging (request metadata). The House Steward's question box is the only form on the site; what you type there is passed straight through to Anthropic (below), which also describes the anonymous question log we keep.
- Anthropic - the "Ask The House Steward" chat sends the question you type to Anthropic's Claude API to generate an answer, along with the house records it draws on. Don't type anything personal or sensitive into it - there's no reason to, and it leaves our site when you press send. We keep an anonymous log of the questions asked and whether the Steward could answer them - the question text only, never your IP address or anything identifying you - so we can see what the site fails to answer and fix it. Anthropic does not use API submissions to train its models; see Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts - typefaces are loaded from Google's font CDN, which can see the requesting IP address, the same as any font or image loaded from a third-party server.
- Google Maps - each house page embeds a Google Maps view of that house's location. Google may set cookies or collect data through that embed under its own privacy policy.
- Amazon Associates - "Find it on Amazon" links are affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). Amazon may set tracking cookies once you click through to amazon.co.uk, governed by Amazon's own privacy policy, not ours.
Cookies
The Stately Homes itself doesn't set any cookies. The third-party services above may set their own when their content loads or you click through to them - that's between you and them, under their respective policies.
One exception worth naming, because it isn't a cookie but behaves a little like one: if you use the House Steward, your conversation is held in your own browser's session storage so it survives following a link to a house page. It never leaves your device, it's cleared when you close the tab, and the Clear button in the chat panel removes it immediately.
